About us:
In 2005, a weekend gathering of surgeons with a shared passion for anatomical precision in surgery took place in Cambridge. The guest speaker, Professor Guilherme Ribas, delivered a captivating series of lectures using his remarkable collection of 3D anatomical slides. His presentations inspired the creation of the Cambridge Lectures in Neurosurgical Anatomy – a unique annual event dedicated to advancing understanding of three-dimensional surgical anatomy.
Held over a weekend, the Lectures feature one or more esteemed guest speakers – renowned master surgeons who present multiple talks in their areas of expertise. To complement these, the core faculty delivers 3D surgical anatomy presentations tailored to the themes of the guest lectures. As a result the participants will have, in effect, completed a mini fellowship!
The Lectures provide high-quality anatomical teaching in a cost-effective format where participants not only deepen their understanding of complex surgical anatomy but also enjoy a stimulating weekend with peers – highlighted by a traditional Cambridge college dinner.
Understanding surgical anatomy is a lifelong pursuit. While books, surgical observation, and cadaveric dissection all contribute to our knowledge, hands-on opportunities are often limited and costly. These Lectures provide an accessible and engaging alternative, combining visual excellence with expert-led instruction.
The course is designed primarily for neurosurgical trainees and practicing neurosurgeons, but it is also highly relevant to allied specialists including theatre staff, specialist nurses, radiologists, oncologists, ophthalmologists, psychologists, physiotherapists, and medical students. Many from these groups have found the Lectures both educational and inspiring.
